The Number of Applicants Surpasses Last Year’s Outstanding Figures

Obuda University has once again managed to increase the number of applicants for the 2025/26 academic year compared to previous years, emphasized Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, Rector, while analyzing the latest data published by the Educational Authority. As he stated, a total of 23,527 applications have been submitted, representing a 17% increase compared to last year’s figures. The number of applicants who selected Obuda University as their first choice stands at 5,643, which is 18.95% higher than last year’s figures. This result not only exceeds the national average but is also the highest in the history of the university. The number of applicants interested in engineering and IT fields has also grown significantly.

Obuda University offers multiple reasons why it is an attractive choice for young students. The institution’s academic excellence is reflected in its outstanding performance on the international stage, highlighted Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács, adding that the university secured a place in the 601-800 range in the 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This achievement places Obuda University second among 11 Hungarian higher education institutions included in the ranking. The university’s increasing popularity can be attributed to its high-quality education, research environment, industry partnerships, and internationally oriented programs, as well as its flexible curriculum, which aligns with market demands.

For undergraduate programs, 4,580 applicants have listed Obuda University as their first choice—16% more than last year, which was already a record-breaking year. Among bachelor’s programs, the Computer Engineering program attracted the highest number of applications, 3,528, followed by Electrical Engineering with 2,165 applications. Graduate programs have also seen an increase in interest, with 922 first-choice applications submitted for master’s programs this year. The most sought-after master’s programs include Data Science, Cybersecurity Engineering, and Computer Engineering. As the Rector pointed out, it is evident that the university’s strategically designed and applied academic portfolio is increasingly effective, attracting students who recognize the opportunity to earn a competitive degree and secure a well-paying job at internationally renowned companies shortly after graduation.

Obuda University has always prioritized delivering high-quality education at its regional campuses. At the Alba Regia Faculty in Székesfehérvár, the number of first-choice applications increased by 14%, while the programs in Salgótarján, Cegléd, and the newly launched courses in Jászberény have also attracted many applicants. According to the Rector, one of the university’s most significant achievements is the continued growth in interest in its engineering programs, with first-choice applications for these fields increasing by 15% compared to last year. The IT programs have seen an even more substantial rise, with 25% more first-choice applications. This trend is primarily driven by the evolving demands of the labor market, as students increasingly recognize the opportunities in engineering and technology. Emerging industrial trends, such as digitalization, sustainability, and innovation, pose challenges that young professionals want to be prepared for, and Obuda University offers an excellent platform to equip them for these future demands, added Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács.

It is important to note that the e-application platform will reopen at the end of March, allowing applicants to submit missing documents until July 9, 2025, and modify the order of their selected programs. The final admission scores will be announced during the Pont Ott Parti event on July 23.
