What is Humanitarian Response?
Humanitarian Response is the professional activity that is intended to save lives, alleviate suffering and maintain human dignity during and after man-made crises and disasters caused by natural hazards, as well as to prevent and strengthen preparedness for when such situations occur. Humanitarian response should be governed by the key humanitarian principles of: humanity, impartiality, neutrality and independence, according to the fundamental principles laid down in various international legal documents.
Who is this course for?
We recommend the training to all graduates who want to work in the humanitarian field and who – in addition to a wide range of theoretical knowledge – want to enrich their knowledge by the expertise of experienced civilian and uniformed professionals of international humanitarian operations, before they begin their work in practise. We also recommend the training for professionals who are already working in the field of humanitarian response but have not yet been involved in fieldwork, whether they want to take part in humanitarian action on behalf of governmental or international (civilian or uniformed) or non-governmental organisations. In addition, of course, we welcome all those as well who are keen to broaden their knowledge in this field based on their personal interests.
What are the prerequisites?
- At least a bachelor’s degree.
- Proficiency in English – both spoken and written.
- Have basic computer skills.
- Must have a computer or laptop.
- Must have a desire and curiosity to learn.
Why learn Humanitarian Response Management?
- Human kind is facing an increasing number of natural disasters every year, floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis besides many others need the quick and effective response from trained professionals.
- Despite the fact that humanity is building institutions and mechanisms in order to avoid wars and armed conflicts both domestic and international, there are several ongoing armed struggles in the world that have a great impact on the lives and livelihoods of the local population, who in many cases need the help of the international community and humanitarian organisations when the government of the particular country is not willing or unable to provide help for them.
- Besides the particular organisations run by the state there is a wide array of non-governmental organisations, national, international, based on faith or just human kindness, so there is a great need for well-trained personnel.

What is Road Network?
The subject is to introduce the students to the basic notions, elements and the operational principles of road infrastructure. During the seminar students will hear about main types, elements, design principles and priorities of transportation infrastructure. They will learn main terms of transportation dynamics, technology of junctions and carriageways. During seminars students must prepare a studyplan for a rural road, completed with siteplan, longitudinal and cross-sections and technical descriptions.

We recommend the training to all civil engineer or architect students or graduates who want to work at the transportation infrastructure sector.

Road construction and related infrastructural developments will play a major role in the coming decades in Africa. Engineers are in huge demand in this field. Good road infrastructure is one of the criteria for the development of backward regions, which indirectly contributes to prosperity and the dynamic development of the region and country!

What is Computational Methods for Data Analysis?
This course is primarily designed for undergraduate students with some or no programming experience. Students will be able to gain understanding of the most important computational methods for solving data analysis problems.
Who is this course for?
Additionally, the course intends to empower students to feel confident about their ability to write small programs, so that they can accomplish data mining tasks.
What are the prerequisites?
An undergraduate-level understanding of linear algebra, statistics, algorithms, and basics in MatLab is assumed.

What is the learning schedule?
After class, each Friday 1-2pm CEST-1, students are encouraged to place their questions in order to clarify mathematical or computational details covered in the lectures. Lectures: 2 sessions / week. 14 week. The course starts with a minimum of 12 participants.
