Obuda University Among the World’s Best in Four Academic Fields!

Times Higher Education (THE) has released its 2025 subject rankings. On one of the world’s most prestigious lists, Obuda University holds a prominent position in four areas and ranks among the leading Hungarian higher education institutions. It achieved outstanding results in computer science, natural sciences, teacher education, and engineering, placing among the world’s top universities.

One of the most prestigious indicators of excellence in higher education is THE’s annual ranking, which is among the best-known and most closely followed by students. On January 22, THE published rankings in eleven subject areas. In compiling these rankings, it takes into account factors such as the number of cited publications and research outputs, the proportion of international students, the impact of research citations, the quality of education, as well as the student-to-staff ratio.

In the field of computer science, Obuda University ranks in the 501–600 range, thus leading the list of Hungarian institutions. It is followed by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (601–800), then Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Debrecen, and the University of Szeged (801–1000).

In teacher education, according to the 2025 subject rankings, Obuda University is the most successful Hungarian higher education institution. This is the first time Obuda University has appeared in the ranking for this field, and it immediately secured a spot among the top 250, ahead of the University of Szeged (501–600), as well as Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Debrecen (601+).

In the engineering field, Obuda University once again stands at the forefront among Hungarian institutions in the 601–800 range, followed by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the University of Szeged in the 801–1000 range.

The results in natural sciences are similarly remarkable, with Obuda University placing in the 601–800 range alongside Eötvös Loránd University, putting both institutions at the forefront among Hungarian universities. They are followed by the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the University of Szeged in the 801–1000 range.

Commenting on these fresh results, Rector Prof. Dr. Levente Kovács emphasized that Obuda University has excelled internationally for many years, and the new subject rankings represent yet another major success for the institution, which is celebrating a triple anniversary this year. Obuda University has once again demonstrated its ability to make significant strides forward and continues its unstoppable progress, remaining dedicated to supporting talent through to success within an exemplary community—just as its motto states.
