AI-first science (AI1Science) is a new scientific approach in which artificial intelligence (AI) plays a central role in the research process, rather than serving merely as a tool. In this paradigm, AI actively contributes to hypothesis formulation, experiment design, data processing, and interpretation of results, potentially leading to new scientific discoveries. The goal of AI-first science is to develop faster, more efficient, and more innovative research methods that go beyond traditional scientific approaches, with the help of AI.
The HUN-REN AI1Science initiative aims to support and promote this new perspective by fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between AI experts and researchers from various scientific fields.
As part of the AI1Science program, a range of events and initiatives are being organized to provide participants with opportunities to develop AI-based research methods.
In addition, the AI4Impact program offers training and resources to help researchers effectively integrate AI into their work. The AI Squad, a team of researchers and technologists, focuses on exploring and developing AI-related research methodologies. Its members contribute new ideas and methods to the scientific community each month, offering valuable input to members of the research network—be it knowledge transfer or technological opportunities.
The AI Explorers Program is designed for researchers who wish to follow the development of AI-driven science. It offers members the opportunity to attend lectures, participate in interactive discussions, and receive training. The goal is to keep participants connected to the latest AI research and provide access to insights from leading researchers and technologists. The program supports members in applying AI-based solutions within their own fields of expertise.
Obuda University was the first to join this outstanding scientific initiative, demonstrating its commitment to the development and application of AI-driven research. The university’s researchers are actively engaged in the program, contributing to the development of new methods and expanding the scientific potential of artificial intelligence. Through its participation in AI1Science, Obuda University further strengthens its international research partnerships and its leading role in integrating innovative technologies.
The joint goal with HUN-REN is to support innovative, interdisciplinary research with a particular focus on the potential of artificial intelligence and data science. Through this collaboration, participants in the AI4Impact program, including AI1Science, gain access to cutting-edge research infrastructure and international scientific collaborations coordinated by HUN-REN. The partnership between Obuda University and HUN-REN enables Hungary to actively contribute to the advancement of AI-driven science and empowers domestic researchers to develop globally competitive solutions.
